Acne is a medical condition that is a multi factorial disease with a genetic predisposition. Once considered a cosmetic condition, it is clear that this is a medical condition that in most cases requires medical intervention to prevent scarring and or negative impact on the patients self esteem. The major triggers for this condition are oil secretion, pore clogging, hormones, inflammation and bacteria. Since there are multiple triggers and or worsening factors, this disease can require multiple topical and or oral medications to effectively control the disease. Although diet cannot cause acne, a diet high in saturated fat and low on vitamins and minerals can worsen the disease due to worsening inflammation and oil secretion.
